Samantha DNS or server trouble
I’ve heard from a couple of people now that they’ve had trouble accessing Samantha’s website, or SamTrak from her site. I suspect DNS trouble. I set these sorts of things up with some regularity, so I should have a pretty good idea of what to do. Alas, I usually do it on more sleep than I had recently, so I could have screwed something up. It all works for me, but I use my own DNS servers.
So, if you can’t get to Sam’s website, please leave a comment on this entry with the exact error message you receive..
Similarly, if you can get to her site AND to SamTrak, and no one else has posted a success message, please leave a note saying that you can get in.
Update: I think I found the problem. For those that don’t care about the details, we’ll need to wait 24-72 hours, then it should work. For those that do care, I had put “ns1.chaoslimited.com” and “ns1.accapehart.com” as the name servers. And while “ns1.accapehart.com” correctly resolves if you ask it for its IP address, verisign’s whois had an old IP address registered for “ns1.accapehart.com.” Sort of a cyclical problem. I’ve changed Sam’s registration so that it uses samanthafaycapehart.com’s own name server (in addition to Chaos’). But that begs the question. Does anyone know how to remove (or update) outdated registered name servers?
I’ve copied “my” users over to Sam’s blog too so that if you are a registered user for choicy white boy as of this writing, you should also now be a user for Squirmatha’s Stories (and so be able to leave her comments as well). Does anyone know if there’s a way to have two MySQL table names for the same underlying table data? (Sort of like a MySQL table sym link)
